A Skit Where You Choose the Title

Some of the choices of titles for this year's Open House play were “The Hawks and the Doves," "Peace, Culture, and Heroism" and "The Crime of the Villainous Demagogue". The skit was called the best yet by one guest who attends almost annually. And requests were made for repeated performances.
The play was preceded by Christmas carols and followed by a dedicatory slide show in honor of our troops. A colonial fife and drum corps rounded it all up.

With elections on the way, the presentation was opportune. Based on an article by Prof. Plinio Correa de Oliveira in 1970, the play portrays a small hamlet in the 19th century debating the importance of certain figures in the community. The shepherdess and the schoolteacher are the most popular, but the war veteran opts for the "hunter of wild beasts" as an example of heroism. The village sage is a retired merchant who belittles the combativeness and remindes his listerners that "intelligent men can have nothing but horror for the spilling of blood," in the tone of certain anti-war figures today. The discussion leaves the village divided.
Lively conversation, a warm fire, and a holiday snack complemented the presentation and made for another successful Open House. Smiles and lots of Christmas cheer filled the Academy, along with many blessings from the Christ-Child, passing through the maternal hands of Mary Most Holy.
