Return to Old Rag Mountain
On October 21, 2007, the students of St. Louis de Montfort Academy piled into the vans eager for a day of hiking at Old Rag Mountain, situated the northern Virginia Blue Ridge.
First year students had been hearing stories of past trips to Old Rag from veteran Academy hikers since the beginning of the year. Now, the entire Academy would again hike the mountain, much to the enjoyment of all.
This is not to say that there were no difficulties. There were huge rocks to climb, tricky crevices to squeeze through.
"I really liked the teamwork in our group," said John-Edward Ferraz (13), who was part of the rear.
The view from the top made all of the effort of climbing up well worth it. All the students agreed. David Womak (12) remarked, "The view made me think of America the Beautiful." John-Edward Ferraz noted, "All the trees on and at the base of the mountains made it look like God's carpet."
When the last group of students finally arrived at the top, we sang the Nicene Creed in Latin while looking out at the sure evidence of the grandeur and majesty of God.
With this, we began the descent of the mountain, less arduous, but with its challenges. Everyone arrived at the base tired in body, but refreshed in spirit with this year’s trip to Old Rag.
