The Raising of the Cross

By Kenneth Murphy
12th Grade

It is no secret that we live in a world of sin. The Church is being assailed by all of its enemies at once, and Our Lord and Our Lady face one of the most widespread abandonments in history. Unspeakable and unnatural sins are being accompanied by grossly defiant and repulsive blasphemies like the gnostic Gospel of Judas and The Da Vinci Code.

After raising the 24-foot wooden cross, the boys sang the Credo in Gregorian Chant.

At this time, the young men of the Saint Louis de Montfort Academy opposed this world by raising a 24-foot cross in front of their school for all to see. Saint Louis de Montfort was surely pleased in heaven since, during his lifetime, he himself devoutly raised many crosses throughout France.

Our magnificent cross, like all of his, will remind those who see it that there are two ways to endure our existence on earth: Either we carry our daily crosses with joy and do our best to defend the Holy Family and the Church from the mockery of the world; or we forget the cross and our obligations in a hopelessly vain effort to live a life without suffering. Also, it will serve as a reminder to everyone of the victory of Christ and of His followers. The dark, robust and serious appearance of the cross testifies to how the Church has and will prevail against the winds of the world until the time comes when nothing but She is left.
